Me and my family

I have two children, both girls and have recently just completed my Diploma of Counselling, hence I am now a qualified counsellor. This course took me a number of years to do part time (hence I had 2 girls during the course) but it was an exceptional course and it was well worth the wait.

I am now counselling other mothers who have suffered from post-natal depression or just feel that they are in need of a little extra guidance and assistance. I work part-time and look after my girls and run the house the remainder of the time. When I get a spare moment I take the dog for a walk or see a movie with a girlfriend.

My first daughter, Abbey is 6 and my second daughter, Chloe is 21 months old.  Abbey is a very happy girl who is in her second year at school and loves dancing, singing, reading and being the centre of attention. All in all she's pretty easy to please.  Chloe is doing well, throws quite a lot of tantrums, runs all over the place and never sits still for a minute. But she's happy and divine.

My husband is in real estate and works incredibly long hours and 6 days a week. We live in Victoria in a residential suburb. My mother and father live in the country, an hour out of Melbourne.  I have two brothers, one older and one younger. My friends are many and varied and I am incredibly lucky.

However, with all the wonderful support that I had in particular from my Mum, I still got post-natal depression and I still felt no-one could really help me or properly understand what I was going through.  I felt like I was trapped in a thick fog and there was no way out.  There was no light at the end of the tunnel, because the tunnel stretched for eternity.

Post-natal depression did hit me a second time, but this time I went straight on the medication. It has certainly helped to get me on top of things again.  Second time around motherhood, is just as hard if not harder sometimes, but at least I am less concerned about all those people sticking their 'uninvited noses' in.  For the most part, I enjoy being a Mum, but it certainly has it's ups and downs, I guess that's why they call it 'the challenges of motherhood.'

With 2 girls our family is now complete, and I am hoping to get to spend more time on the website and helping out other women and well as spending time with my 2 beautiful girls.

May you always be safe and surrounded by love like I am. Kind regards, Melinda Walker
